The recent cold has been followed by much warmer weather. On the face of it that sounds good as we relax in the first of the Spring sunshine. However, vine-growers are worried that if the vines begin their new growth too early they are more susceptible to late frosts (end of April and start of May) as the grape flowers will have appeared early and can be easily damaged. Late Springs are fine as the vines always catch up during the Summer period. Despite global warming Sancerre remains at the extreme northern limit of successful Sauvignon Blanc harvest.
